It's always nice to have a healthy lawn, right? It can be hard to tell the difference between a lawn that's just about maintaining its good health and a lawn that's healthy and thriving.

In this blog, we'll go through 5 tell-tale signs of a healthy lawn so you can identify whether your lawn needs some extra TLC or whether it's doing just great!

1. No Weeds

Take a look at your lawn and take notice of any hidden or apparent weeds. Weeds usually appear in lawns where the grass is weaker. It is in these scenarios where you may find more weeds, as they begin to overpower your lawn. They're very opportunistic, and very annoying!

To make your grass more vigorous and robust against weeds, you can feed, aerate and scarify your lawn to build up its strength.

2. No Moss

You may believe that your lawn is perfectly healthy, but when you look a bit closer, you may be surprised to find bouts of moss hidden within your lawn. But, unfortunately, moss doesn't count as grass - even though it is green.

If your lawn is thin and struggling, moss will usually try to find its way into your lawn.

Moss is a symptom of a larger lawn problem. It could indicate that your lawn has bad drainage or its soil is too compact.

3. No Bugs

Lawn bugs can be the death of a lawn - literally! One such lawn pest is the leatherjacket - a garden pest with a tubular body and a greyish brown colour.

There are over 300 species of leatherjacket in the UK, and they can emerge as adults throughout August to October. If you have leatherjackets present in your lawn, you will see patches of yellow-brown or dead grass across your lawn.

Other lawn pests to look out for include ants, chafer grubs, moles and worms. Luckily for you, we're specialists in lawn pest management.

Essentially, if your lawn appears to be free of these pests, then its usually a good sign that your lawn is healthy.

4. No Bare Spots

Thin spots can develop on your lawn for a variety of reasons.

One of these reasons is when there is excess soil compaction within your lawn. When your soil is over-compacted, your lawn 'gasps' for air as it can't take in nutrients or water. This weakens the turf, resulting in bare spots. For this issue, we'd recommend our lawn aeration service.

Bare spots can also be a sign of having fungal pathogens present within your lawn. Thankfully, we have a variety of fungus and mould lawn treatments available to fix this issue.

5. It's Green!

We all know that the number 1 sign of a healthy lawn is its luscious green colour. Healthy lawns tend to boast a beautiful, rich dark green colour.

This shows that it is being watered and fed consistently to the point where the lawn can thrive. Obviously, if you have a dark green lawn, this does not mean that there aren't any issues present.

Inspect your lawn frequently to identify any of the above issues. And, if you find anything or need to ask any questions, you know where to find us.
