dog playing with hose pipe in summery gardern - july lawn care and july lawn care tips

The summer is one of the busiest times of year for our lawns! From barbeques to water fights your lawn sees a lot of action, so it’s important to make sure that you’re doing all you can to keep it in tip-top shape.

As the seasons change, so does the care your lawn needs to stay healthy. The lawn care professionals here at Lawn & Weed Expert have put together this handy blog to help guide you on the best way to keep your lawn fresh as a daisy (no pun intended) this summer!

July Lawn Care

By the time July rolls around, summer is well and truly underway; the weather is usually reaching its warmest temperatures, and depending on a number of factors, this can be either a dry or humid heat. These variable weather conditions all play a massive part in determining the health of your lawn, and the best course of action won’t always be the same year after year.

Here are some lawn care tips for maintaining lawn health in July:

Mow regularly

Grass grows the fastest in the summer months. Typically, during July, you should aim to mow your lawn every 10 days or so. If the weather is wet or humid you may be able to drop the blades a little closer to the ground, but if the weather has been dry, you’ll need to keep the mowing height high. Always remember to keep your blades clean and sharp!

Fertilise

A lawn can be fertilised any time between March – October really, but if your grass is looking a little tired, adding some fertiliser in July can be a great way to help revitalise your lawn.

Weed Control

When you’re too busy enjoying you garden in the summer sun, it can be easy to let your garden weeds grow out of control. What seems like a few harmless weeds can quickly overtake and weaken the health of your lawn, so it’s best to stay on top of it!

Water

Just like humans, it’s important for your lawn to stay hydrated in the summer. If your lawn becomes dehydrated, you will notice that your grass will turn brown, possibly even thinning out and dying back. A dehydrated lawn can be an easy target for all manner of weeds and pests – not to mention an eyesore! Regular watering is one of the simplest yet most important summer lawn care tasks.

Lawn Pests and Disease

While lawn pests and lawn diseases are generally less common in the summer months there are still a few that might rear their ugly heads in July, such as ants or red thread (when the weather is humid). Keep a keen eye out for any of the tell-tale signs, and take action as soon as you notice something is amiss.
